The story behind our 'Deliciously Local' range

Our delicious new food range features locally sourced ingredients from the South Canterbury region. These divine products are a reflection of our Foodstore & Eatery building - black on the outside but on the inside bursting with personality, beautiful flavours and a harmonious connection with our local community.
We can't wait for you to try this range when you are in-store - it's really something special! Read the story of this beautiful range below.
The story behind the 'Deliciously Local' Conserves
Hamish McFarlane and his wife Bridget are continuing a family tradition supplying blackcurrants to Barker's which began with his farther, Don, working with Anthony Barker back in 1981.
Hamish believes South Canterbury is ideal for growing blackcurrants. We use their blackcurrants and raspberries to make our conserves and through the pollination of their blackcurrant bushes, our Creamed Honey.
These conserves are beautiful on scones, baked brie, or simply with freshly baked sourdough! They also look amazing - perfect for a small gift!
Make sure to pick up both jars when you are next in-store! Tell our team which one your favourite is - we would love to know!
The story behind the 'Deliciously Local' Creamed Honey
Craig Barrie has been a beekeeper for 35 years and together with his wife Leigh, has run Barrie's Honey LTD for over 20 years, just outside of Geraldine. Craig feels very strongly about caring for his bees and their hives and we are partnering with them to bring you creamed honey where the bees pollinate the blackcurrant crop whilst foraging for nectar from the flowers.
Together creating a beautiful high-quality honey that is a pleasure to consume any time of the day! Perfect for drizzling on top of toast or pancakes, mixing into hot drinks or sweetening dressings and marinades.

The story behind the 'Deliciously Local' 4 Seed Crackers & Coconut, Berry & Toasted Nut Granola
Becs and Emma are our delightful in-house bakers who can turn their hands to just about anything. So we charged them with trialing and baking the recipes for our 4 seed crackers (incoporating Pear & Fig Relish) and Coconut, Berry & Toasted Nut Granola (incorporating Immunity Unsweetened Blackcurrant and local honey) and now these feature proudly on our breakfast and platter menus.
This Coconut, Berry & Toasted Nut Granola is delicious with yogurt and a berry compote for breakfast, as a topping for breakfast muffins or a topping for winter porridge.
The beautiful jars are perfect for upcycling creatively - whether that be a layered salad, a stationary jar or using for a home office plant!
These 4 Seed Crackers are simply stunning when they feature on a homemade platter board. Sure to impress when topped with smoked salmon, or even goats cheese with our Creamed Honey!
